Ancient collection
The ancient collection of the Art Museum of the city of Ravenna has a fascinating history. The works that compose it come largely from suppressed monasteries and churches in Romagna, especially from the Classe monastery of Ravenna, which was suppressed in 1797 and whose properties passed to the Municipality.
Modern collection
The works exhibited at the Art Museum of the city of Ravenna, created between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, testify to the intense artistic interaction between Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Tuscany and the Papal State.
Contemporary collection
The twentieth century and contemporary collections of the Ravenna Art Museum offer a journey between sacred art and individual artistic research, from the post-war period to today, through a chronological or thematic path.
Contemporary mosaics
In Ravenna, in the 1950s, Giuseppe Bovini and the Mosaicists Group of the Academy of Fine Arts innovated the traditional mosaic, combining it with the experimental artistic trends of the time.
