Discover the MAR through its collections, temporary exhibitions and the stories they tell. Guided tours offer an opportunity to view the works from a fresh perspective, explore the themes of the exhibitions in greater depth and let yourself be guided on a journey of discovery through art.
Tours of the permanent collections allow you to explore the museum’s three main exhibition areas. The Picture Gallery houses works that trace the history of Italian painting from the 14th to the 19th century, with a particular focus on the local area. The Contemporary Mosaic Collection features works by Italian and international artists who have reinterpreted the mosaic in a modern key, experimenting with forms, materials and artistic languages. The Paolo Roversi Gallery is dedicated to the great Ravenna-born photographer and offers the opportunity to explore his poetic universe through images that blend fashion, art and visual exploration.
School programmes
At MAR, a visit to the museum becomes an experience to be lived, observed and explored together.
The school programmes guide children and young people on a journey of discovery through art, exploring the museum’s permanent collections and temporary exhibitions. The activities are designed for different age groups and offer various ways of engaging with the works: by observing, listening, asking questions and experimenting.

Discovering the Art Gallery
The Palette of Emotions
A journey to discover some of the most important works in the museum’s collections, guided by the magical light of colours and the emotions they evoke in us. In the workshop, we’ll have the opportunity to create our own personal palette through which to express the feelings and memories that connect us to our favourite colours. A magical journey through art history, memory and emotions.
Leave your mark!
A journey that will take us on a discovery of art, starting with the romantic landscapes of the nineteenth century and leading to the most surprising innovations of today’s artists. In the studio, we’ll have the chance to creatively reinterpret the symbols of contemporary art’s innovative language, inspired by the originality of the style found in some of the Art Gallery’s most important works.
Discovering the Contemporary Mosaic Collection
Movement, rhythm, flow
Tiles and children come to life, following the flow of a grand mosaic path that transforms movement into emotion. Inspired by this, each child will create their own mosaic/path of emotions, guided by their own feelings and putting their powers of imagination and abstraction to the test.
A World of Pixels
The photos that capture moments of our lives today are made up of pixels. What would happen if we filled the pixels with colour to represent our emotions, transforming them into a kaleidoscopic decoration? Using warm and cool colours, sad and happy hues, calm and energetic shades, participants will create their own ‘mosaic’ of pixels, highlighting their feelings and trying to interpret themselves and others through artistic expression.

Temporary exhibitions
Nicola Samorì. Supremalia
Fragile Beauty Workshop
The workshop is based on an experiential, narrative and relational approach that places the viewer at the centre as an active participant in the process of discovery. The activity stems from a dialogue between Nicola Samorì’s contemporary works, the plaster casts in the plaster cast gallery and a fragile material such as paper, prompting a reflection on the meaning of transformation, wounding and imperfection as elements capable of generating new forms of beauty. The experience continues with activities during which participants will explore the creative value of the unfinished and of fragility.
