Io sono l’altro (I am the other) is the second project of Spazio Neutro that hosts the work of Victor Fotso Nyie, a Cameroonian artist who, through the reinterpretation of African traditions and symbolism, investigates the theme of identity, understood in its broadest definition.
The artist uses clay and portraiture as a cognitive process of his own origins and as a means for a cultural re-appropriation that weaves collective memories, ancient stories and forms into a personal and contemporary language.
Everything happens, here, around Re-connexion, a sculpture in which the physiognomy of the artist himself can be found, from whose head, as in a dream, anthropomorphic figures come to life: idols and African artefacts that shine within them with a golden patina that transcends the earthly materiality of terracotta, to evoke a divine and ethereal dimension.
