The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross

  • MAR - Museo d'Arte della città di Ravenna

The MAR hosts a concert of profound spiritual intensity presented by La Corelli.

The program features The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross, a celebrated composition by Joseph Haydn, written in 1786 for the Good Friday liturgy. The work is structured in seven slow musical movements, inspired by the final phrases spoken by Jesus on the cross.

The music guides the listener through a path of reflection, from the plea for forgiveness to the hope of salvation. The final movement, titled “The Earthquake,” is a powerful and sudden piece that evokes the Gospel account of Christ’s death.

The concert will be performed in the intimate and evocative form of a string quartet, featuring:

Tommaso Belli, violin
Elisa Porcinai, violin
Francesca Fogli, viola
Vanessa Sinigaglia, cello

The event is included in the museum admission ticket and offers a moment of listening and contemplation in preparation for the Easter season.

The initiative is made possible through the collaboration between La Corelli, the Ministry of Culture, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Bagnara di Romagna, AIAM, and Tuke SAS.
