Photographer Arianna Arcara presents her artistic journey in dialogue with Veronica Lanconelli (photo observatory)
Arianna Arcara was born in Monza in 1984. After studying photography, she co-founded the photographic collective Cesura, which explores different approaches to documentary photography, and the publishing house Cesura Publish of which she is co-art director.
Her artistic practice investigates the ever-changing meaning and form of “boundaries” – natural, urban, cultural or human – with a particular focus on adolescence. The common goal of many of her works is to move along one of these boundaries through the development of collaborative processes.
Arcara questions how-and whether-her photography can impact the people and stories she follows, constantly reflecting on and seeking new ways to engage and emancipate her subjects.
The presentation Arianna Arcara – Confini is part of the project Elementary school of photography 25-26
Elementary School of Photography is a free training course aimed at kidsə from 14 to 35 years old living or studying in Ravenna. It is an atypical course, articulated in a series of appointments on weekends between March 2025 and June 2026 and itinerant, taking place in different spaces in the city. Each enrolledə will have the opportunity to approach photography from both a theoretical and practical point of view by experiencing a cross-section of the world of contemporary Italian and international photography thanks to the meeting with artistə and professionistə who deal with the discipline in different fields, and follow technical/practical workshops. In its second edition, Elementary School of Photography will focus this year on the contamination between photography and other artistic disciplines, particularly writing. Elementary School of Photography is a co-project of the Department of Youth Policies of the municipal administration and photographic observatory APS, a permanent laboratory for research on photography born in Ravenna in 2009.
The guides for the course are Nicola Baldazzi and Veronica Lanconelli
