OMISSIS, a talk with Emilio Macchia

MAR is hosting OMISSIS, a talk with Emilio Macchia, graphic designer, art director and lecturer, focused on contemporary graphic design.

The event is moderated by Veronica Lanconelli. Starting from his experience in research and professional practice, Macchia will present his work in visual communication, including projects for clients, publishing and cultural contexts.

This is an opportunity to learn more about the methods, languages and perspectives of contemporary graphic design through the voice of a leading figure on the Italian scene.

Who is Emilio Macchia

Emilio Macchia is a graphic designer, art director and lecturer working in Italy and internationally.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and at ISIA in Urbino, and was a researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht.

He is the founder and artistic director of Fahrenheit 39 Art Book Fair and the creative director of Osservatorio Fotografico, a publishing and research platform. Together with Erica Preli, he founded the graphic design studio eee, working on projects for cultural institutions, publishing and visual research.

Since 2018, he has been art director of the international magazine Progetto Grafico (AIAP Edizioni). He has taught at several institutions, including the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino and the University of Bologna. He currently teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata and at ISIA in Faenza.

Over the years, he has collaborated with major cultural organisations such as Collezione Maramotti, Santarcangelo Festival and Photolux Festival, combining design practice with research and teaching.


An event organised by the Elementary School of Photography

OMISSIS is part of the Elementary School of Photography 2025–2026, a free programme for young people aged 14 to 35 who live or study in Ravenna.

The programme includes weekend events from March 2025 to June 2026, with talks, workshops and practical activities on contemporary photography. This edition focuses on the relationship between photography and other artistic disciplines, especially writing.

The project is promoted by the Department of Youth Policies of the Municipality of Ravenna, in collaboration with Osservatorio Fotografico APS, a research group active since 2009.

Activities are led by Nicola Baldazzi and Veronica Lanconelli.
