MAR – Ravenna Art Museum, as part of the VIII Biennale of Contemporary Mosaics, presents BURRIRAVENNAORO (BurriRavennaGold). An important exhibition, dedicated to Alberto Burri and curated by Bruno Corà, will take place on the first and second floors of the museum from 14 October 2023 until 14 January 2024.
The realization was possible thanks to the Project of the Ministry of Tourism who promotes the exploitation of Ravenna City of Mosaics, the Emilia-Romagna Region, Fondazione Gardini, Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna, and Romagna Acque Società delle Fonti.
The exhibition draws the story of the intense relationship between Burri and the City of Ravenna since the end of the 80s. In a series of works inspired by the history and artistic culture of the city, by contrasting black and gold, darkness and light, Burri enters into a dialogue with the historic mosaics of Ravenna. Balancing spirituality and materiality, he engages the reality of the city, which intertwines the abandoned things of the past with the production and industrial developments of the present.
The exhibition will show the narration of Burri’s biography and a footage of the artist at work in a multimedia area. These film videos together with the exhibition catalog, the critical essays and the documents of the works exhibited at MAR, will make more people to learn about one of the leading European artist of the second half of the 20th century.
