In 2026, the POLIS Theatre Festival will reach its 9th edition as one of the few Italian theatre festivals to explore fundamental issues such as the defence of civil rights, migration, war, climate change and the role of art in society, doing so with a Nordic Focus at its heart.
Siim Tõniste is in Ravenna in May for a development phase of Tivoli, a work set to premiere in Tallinn in September 2026. The residency will focus on a participatory section in which local participants will collaboratively build a temporary funfair based on shared and personal memories, both real and imagined.
These fragments will be selected, collected and carefully preserved like tinned fruit, to be used as building blocks to transform the physical space. Through practical activities combining collective imagination, nostalgia and decision-making, participants will test the dramaturgical mechanisms of this assembly process, exploring how individual stimuli can merge into a shared form.
