On Saturday 17 January 2026, MAR will host the closing event of the 9th Ravenna Contemporary Mosaic Biennial.
At 5 p.m., there will be a presentation of the catalogues for the solo and parallel exhibitions Breath by Shahzia Sikander and Studies in Mosaics by Omar Mismar, hosted at Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste. The two exhibitions explored the role of mosaics in contemporary artistic practices, addressing central themes such as identity, politics, and social tensions of the present.
During the meeting, the catalogue of the exhibition La superficie dell’anima by Marco De Luca, held at the Fondazione Cardinale Giacomo Lercaro in Bologna, will also be presented. The exhibition, dedicated to one of the leading figures in contemporary mosaic art in Ravenna, brought together around twenty of the artist’s latest works, characterised by a poetics of rare formal refinement and an intense spiritual dimension.
